2017 Motorcycle Adventure to Alaska (Day nine)

When I woke this morning it looked like a nice day but because of all the haze caused by the forest fires over in British Columbia (BC) I didn't wind up taking many photographs.
After I had packed up and was on my way out of Hinton I swung by the Visitor Centre to finish up and publish my blog for the previous day. I took this opportunity to take a shot in front of their town sign.

I was prepared for this situation but it always shakes you up a bit when you're leaving "civilization" and you see a sign that tells you there is no fuel stops or services of any kind for the next 185 kms. (115 miles).
Highway 40 going north out of Hinton is meant to be the scenic route to Alaska but after the Ice Fields Pkwy. it was not even worthy of a photo I'm afraid.
I have been researching the Alaska Highway for months and was excited to arrive in Dawson Creek, BC which is the start of the world famous highway and eager to photograph the entrance sign.

One odd thing I've noticed after endless conversations about bears and other wild life, I haven't seen a deer, elk, moose or bear since I left home over a week ago.

As I rolled into Fort St. Johns to have some dinner and find a campsite the big black clouds rolled in too and started raining. The good news was that it had stopped by the time I'd finished eating.
Tomorrow I continue heading northwest toward Whitehorse in the Yukon. I should be there by Wednesday.
