2017 Motorcycle Adventure to Alaska (Day eight)

Today was a full day of riding up the Ice Fields Parkway that runs from Banff to Jasper in Alberta. It was tough saying goodbye to Bob this morning as I was really getting used to the Canmore lifestyle. This stop was by far my favourite part of my adventure so far and now I have a new friend.

The next few pictures are just a variety of shots taken at various points of interest along the parkway. I had taken 24 photographs and paired it down to nine for my blog.

At one stop I watched a man gliding by in his kayak on this spectacular mountain lake. It just looked so peaceful.

This was an interesting experience. Having just climbed up from the valley you see behind the bike, I was approached by a big family of Chinese tourists who wanted to take pictures of me and the bike. The next thing I knew they wanted to sit on the bike and have their pictures taken. They were all so excited to do this and they must have taken dozens of photos before we finally parted ways.

Below is a great view of the Athabaska Glacier that I mentioned in my video.

Here is a shot of the famous Tangle Falls and I was fortunate to be able to take a shot that wasn't crawling with tourists.

As usual I had no reservations anywhere so I continued north past Jasper and found a KOA. To my surprise it was full and wouldn't have room till Sunday. I had no choice but to continue on to Hinton. I found the visitor centre and they were wonderful. They directed me to the town campsite which was nearby and only $25 a night which included free firewood and brand new showers. After getting set up I grabbed a bite to eat and returned to the visitor centre to use their blazing fast wifi.
The hundreds of forest fires in British Columbia are sending a lot of smoke in my direction which makes for a kind of misty looking day out but for now thee doesn't seem to be any danger to the area I'm traveling in.
The heat has followed me though and really weighs on my energy level so I was "sawing logs" by 10:00 pm. What's interesting for me is that it's still very light out at this hour and as I go further north it will be light for much of the "night".
