I had a good night’s sleep, just not enough of it. Giacomo’s bed is very comfortable and
the air conditioning seems to really help. I was just up late doing my blog and
when 7:00 am rolled around I was wide awake.
Giacomo had told me last night that he would be arriving
back this morning around 9 to 9:30 am and he would bring breakfast. Young
single people tend to have very few meals at home or order in a lot so there
was really nothing in the apartment to eat. Well, true to his word he showed up
with two wraps packed with egg and veggies, two bowls of mixed fruit and two
black coffees. This was not a McDonald’s breakfast. It was fresh, hot and
delicious.
We had such a great time together that I didn’t want to
leave but alas, the road was calling me. Here are a couple of pics that he took outside his apartment as I was leaving. I'm really preferring the clean shaven look.
The weather in LA was warm and sunny because as the song
says, “It never rains in California”. We know that’s not exactly true but it
was another perfect morning and I was excited to get back on the coastal
highway. I have ridden it many times in my life starting way back in 1968 on my
very first motorcycle adventure.
It took a while but I finally hit the coast at Santa Barbara
but by Morro Bay there was a heavy fog rolling in and the temperature dropped
dramatically. It was pushing up into the 90’s but now out on the coast it had
dropped to the 60’s.
I was looking forward to getting some great shots as I cruised up the coast but the fog was getting worse as I got further north.
My decision to take the coastal highway was terribly flawed
because I had chosen it for the beauty and much of that was hidden by fog and I
had hoped to get at least as far as San Francisco but only made it to Salinas
because the coast is slow and winding. I will visit my old college friend,
Daniel Osmer, tomorrow who lives in Sebatopol, CA. I’m only 2 ½ hrs. away so I
should be there by noon.
