Cavan was up and feeling groggy after a difficult night. His concussion recovery is going to be a long slow road. He had set up an appointment with a psychologist for 1:30 so we had the morning to ourselves. I took advantage of the time to do my laundry and catch up on my blog.
The ladies returned at 1:00. Not wanting to be left behind Alicia and I accompanied Cavan and Angie to the clinic. At first it liked like it might be the world's fastest doctor visit but it soon proved to be quite typical as Alicia and I waited patiently in the reception area. The doctor's conclusion was that Cavan needed a week of brain rest with as little stimulation as possible and was very concerned that he was still experiencing symptoms after two weeks. Our afternoon consumed by the doctor's office we decided to take Cavan home so he could rest. On route Angie got a call from the doctor saying that she was concerned after we left and had gone ahead and set up an MRI at the veteran's hospital and that we should get there asap.
Alicia and I asked to be dropped off downtown as this procedure was going to take several hours. We strolled down to the Willamette River, which cuts right through the middle of Portland, and found a nice floating bar and restaurant.
Alicia is a free spirit and just wanted to have some fun before she departed for home on Wednesday night. We had a drink and shared some starters.
It was a lovely warm, sunny late afternoon so we continued our little city adventure, taking pictures and talking as we walked. The park along the river was full of people, joggers, tourists, families as well as the ever present homeless. Alicia had already toured the downtown area with Angie and was excited to show me the Ira C. Keller Fountain.
There was this guy who was diving from one of the elevated pools to the other and I successfully captured him in the act.
We kept on walking and found this sidewalk that had all kinds of inscribed bricks with a crazy mixture of sayings.
It was getting late and we needed some liquid refreshment so we wound up having a beer at one of the old city bars that had a nice outdoor patio.
We hadn't heard from Angie and Cavan so we gave them a call. They figured they would be about another hour so to take a load off them we decided to take the train back to their place rather than wait for them to come back for us.
The timing was perfect as we arrived back home only minutes after them.
The good news was that the MRI had revealed no serious brain issues and as before it was just going to take time for a full recovery.
It had been a long day and we were all tired. Angie had class in the morning from 8 till noon so we all hit the hay.
