Cavan and the girls, Angie and Alicia, had spent the night in Chris' basement apartment. Angie was taking Alicia out to the Oregon coast so they dropped off Cavan at Barbara's place before they left. We decided to treat ourselves to a breakfast out at Off the Waffle which was a short walk from the house. Barbara lives in a wonderful neighbourhood with an eclectic mixture of homes and their fabulous gardens. The climate is perfect for growing a wide variety of plants that I don't see in Canada. After breakfast she took us on a little tour of the Eugene area. The city had taken a wasted sliver of land under a freeway overpass and built this incredible skate park.
We found a nice vantage point on a nearby bridge to watch the action. Here are Barbara and Cavan enjoying the skateboarders.
After this we decided to stop and check out this beautiful mansion once owned by a city founding family. Being Sunday it was closed for tours but we took the opportunity to peak in the windows. It was built in 1888 and has been faithfully restored to it's original splendour both inside and out.
Both Cavan and Barbara have dogs so we went to a park to let them out for a run and their favourite chasing squirrels. Barbara thought I would enjoy seeing the city from a high point so we drove to Skinner's Butte and I snapped this shot.
Now back at Barbara's house she decided to take a nap and Cavan and I decided to watch a DVD movie he'd rented. Cavan is still in recovery stage from his concussion so he tends to tire easily and so the movie was also a way to relax.
About 4:30 pm the girls returned from the coast. Here is a nice group shot before leaving Eugene.
I got there first and they rolled in a few minutes later with Lebanese takeout as we were all hungry and not in the mood to cook.
The girls went to bed early and Cavan and I again decided to watch a movie, the Frankenstein remake, which was very bad. The movie ended and I was off to my camper which is now set up on their front lawn.
