I had a horrible time sleeping last night. It had rained most of the night and sleeping in a tent camper is extremely noisy during a rain storm. It was also my first night on the road and my new sleeping bag that's rated for -25C was way too hot. On top of the heat and noise I had decided not to take a sleeping tablet as I am trying to wean myself from taking them every night.
I decided to have a couple of small oranges and a nice piece of chocolate that was left over from Penny's lunch for my morning snack. I wanted to get packed up and back on the road and figured I'd either find a breakfast joint or wait and have an early lunch.
My destination today was Thunder Bay which was a little further than I wanted to ride but I was anxious to get out west to experience the incredible scenery I knew was waiting for me.
I was all geared up with my bike jacket and rain suit because it was still pretty chilly out and I was riding in and out of rain showers to boot. It actually got down to 10C at one point and you could see that many of the deciduous trees were still trying to push out their spring leaves. Also, anytime I stopped for a break or a photo opportunity I was descended on by swarms of hungry black flies. Back home these little pests are mostly done to be replaced by mosquitoes. Both of these critters are in abundance up in Alaska so I'm not looking forward to that prospect.
Here is a couple of shots taken along the north shore of Lake Superior.
Here's one I took in Wawa, Ontario with the giant Canada Goose in the background.
I got into Thunder Bay around 6:00pm, got settled and rode into town to have some dinner and write my blog. The campground is packed so it could be a rowdy night but I'm dead beat so hopefully I can sleep.
