EAST COAST USA (DAY TWENTY TWO)

It's Saturday morning and I'm wakened by the rain on my camper roof. I normally don't mind that sound at night because I'm hoping it will clear by morning but hearing it at 6:00 am concerns me that I may have a soggy ride home. To my surprise the clouds drifted away and out comes the sunshine.
Today was all about going home. I had been on the road for 22 days and by the time I reached Chez Monet (my island home) I would have traveled 6500 kms. ( 4038 miles). I'd slept well and wanted to get back on the road to complete the last leg of the journey. Before heading for home though I needed to swing by my parcel service in Niagara Falls, NY and pick up my ordered item. The warehouse was only a ten minute drive away so in no time at all I was at the border crossing and in line to see the customs agent. As it always seems I chose the slowest line of the three that were open this morning. I took the opportunity to snap a couple of photos of the falls in the distance and the hotel/casino in the foreground.

As you can see it had turned into a lovely day. The border officer was very nice and let me through without issue. Minutes later I was blasting up the QEW heading around Lake Ontario to Toronto. The weekend traffic was heavy but moving well. I didn't hit any slow down until Hwy. 400 that takes Torontonians to the cottage country where I live. It was pretty much bumper to bumper for 50 miles or so up to the Holland Marsh and then things started to move. Off in the distance I could see dark clouds building and figured that I was going to get wet before getting home. By Orillia the rain had started so I put on my rain gear. The rain wasn't too heavy and by the time I had reached Muskoka it had stopped and the sky brightened up some. I knew that going straight home to an empty house would have been rather anti-climactic so I rode into Bracebridge to Martin's, to see my good friends Jim and Penny Burns who I knew would be there to welcome me home. Because they were not expecting me to arrive there, I got a wonderful reception and Jim took a couple of photos in the parking lot.

I hung out for awhile with them as they brought me up to date on the status of my home. I thanked them for helping out with the house sitting and "headed for the barn". When I pulled up to my home my two fur kids were there to greet me and behaved like I'd never left.

Well folks, that's it for this year. My trip had it's ups and downs as always but I always return with a very satisfied smile on my face and wonder what adventure awaits me next year.
