EAST COAST USA (DAY SIXTEEN)

Katie's plan this morning was to be out the door again by 9:00am so we could both go over to the new place and continue cleaning up all the debris from the interior demolition. Unfortunately her stomach was still a little upset from last night so we had a slow lingering breakfast and had some great conversation while she regained her strength.
I have been working away at my "honey-do" list and have been frustrated by two items; the low water pressure from their ensuite sink tap and a broken window balance mechanism (that's the spring and cord system inside a window frame that assists when you slide the window up).
Michael had to go to practice with his band for an upcoming gig and wasn't able to join Katie and I on "cleaning duty". Because Katie had a 1:00 pm meeting to attend she wanted to get going now that her tender tummy was doing better so off she went. Mickey and I tried to fix the window with no luck and after disassembling the bathroom faucet I couldn't find anything to affect the poor water pressure.  Mickey offered to drop me at the new house to help Katie but not before giving me a tour of their new neighbourhood. It's one of those older communities with mostly bungalows that has become very popular because of the relatively low purchase prices. Most of the recent buyers have gone in and really upgraded their property so it's a great investment as property values are climbing.
Poor old Katie. It's still very hot and humid and she was inside sweating away in the dusty dark interior. There is no electricity yet so they have an extension cord running to their neighbour's house so they can run the shop-vac. It's so dirty and dusty that you have to wear a mask so as not to breath in the stuff. We probably spent a couple of hours there before we had to leave. By this time we both needed a shower and a change of clothes. Katie fixed a quick lunch for us and was off to her meeting. That left me home alone so this was my final chance to fix the window and this time I was successful.
Mickey arrived home first and after a quick bite to eat drove us to the grocery store. You see I had decided after  going out for dinner for the past two nights that I would  cook them a nice big spagetti dinner from scratch  complete with french bagette and a fresh green salad. We picked up all the ingredients  and returned home  so I could create my culinary masterpiece. Whiile I chopped onions and crushed garlic Mickey sat at the kitchen table grading papers  (he teaches English Writing at the university in Charlotte, NC).  Meanwhile Katie is back over at the new place cleaning up the plaster debris.  About 7:00pm she rolls in, has a quick shower  and now it's chow time. The meal was a huge success and there's even left overs for another meal. I washed up our dinner dishes while Mickey  searched for a good movie on TV to round out the evening. It was a great  conclusion to a very productive day.
