It was now Monday morning and I had two goals for the day: to see the famous Perce Rock, and to make it to New Brunswick. It was not raining when I pulled up stakes in Gaspe but it was windy, cold, overcast and threatening rain.
The coastal highway was very picturesque but because it passed through literally dozens of villages and small towns it was difficult to travel very far in a day. I was constantly shifting up or down as the speed limits changed every few kilometres. As I got closer and closer to Perce Rock the weather took a turn for the worse and a heavy fog rolled in that reduced my visibility to about 100 feet in front. As well as being dangerous, especially never having ridden these roads, it meant that I was unable to see the Rock. This was very disappointing but I had no idea how long I might have to wait for the fog to lift so I just kept riding.
One observation I made was that these Acadians really had a lot of pride in their homes as most all of them were beautifully kept and almost seemed to be on display.
Another thing I noticed was that every town had it's one Catholic Church prominently located with a huge pointy spire.
Later in the afternoon I crossed into New Brunswick at Campbelltown and ultimately found a very nice camp ground at Belledune, NB. Below are a couple of shots of the inside of my cozy sleeping room and under bed storage.
