EAST COAST USA 2015 (DAY FOUR)

Sitting here in the evening trying to recall the events of the day is not always a simple task. Some days are full of new things and others not so much. When I sleep in a new location every night it gets tricky trying to remember where I started out and how I got to be here. On top of that I feel I need to keep it somewhat interesting.
Waking up this morning I wasn't immediately aware that it was a nice day outside because there was some morning haze so the sun was struggling to filter through it and the tall pines that surrounded me.
By the time I was done with breakfast and a quick clean up the sun was in full form again for the fourth day in a row. Wow! I love it.
My daughter Erin, who lives in Brooklyn, NY, and I have decided that the best time for me to arrive is this Saturday morning. God I love not having to work anymore. This means that I now have four days to explore the Boston, Cape Cod  and Rhode Island areas before I visit her in New York..
I never realized that there is a Hwy. 1 that runs the east coast just like it's twin out on the west coast so off I went down Hwy. 1 east coast style.
My first stop was Kennebunkport, Maine which you must all have heard about. I believe it was the old stomping grounds for the Kennedy's and other well healed celebs. It was a very "sheshe" little port crawling with tourists all looking for a treasure to take home to remember their experience. It was clear from the t-shirt shops that this is Republican territory. One read, "Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Bush". They apparently think Ged Bush could win next year's election.
Here are some photos of the town.

This isn't the best photo but this amazing art sculpture shop really inspired me. When I get home I want to create some wind powered sculptures. I can do this.

Just like the California coast there are long stretches of beach. Today the temperature was hovering around 30'C (nearly 90'F) and the humidity was probably 90% too. So, the beaches were packed with glistening, well oiled bathers of every description.

And I had to get a shot of my bad motor scooter parked with the Atlantic Ocean as a back drop.

On I drove down the coast past some unbelievable homes that this area is famous for. I actually checked some real estate listings while in Kennebunkport and was quite surprised how reasonable the prices were compared to the out of control southern Ontario market.
Around 2:00 pm I was getting a little peckish so I stopped at a Dairy Queen for a small Blizzard. It was so refreshing because of the crazy heat. A little further on I stopped for some "retail therapy" at a huge outlet mall but didn't find anything intriguing enough to purchase.
Now the sky ahead was building some huge dark storm clouds and I needed to make a decision.  I  figured that riding in the rain is never fun so if I stepped up my pace and got down past Boston I could set up camp around Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Then I could use this as my base camp to explore Boston and the Cape Cod area before heading down to New York.
The one detail that escaped me was driving through Boston rush hour. For those unfamiliar with Boston, they use a lot of tunnels to alleviate their massive traffic problem  above ground. I knew this but didn't remember  until I found myself in what seemed like the longest tunnel in the free world. Inching along in bumper to bumper traffic inside a tunnel with  nothing to breath but exhaust fumes in 30'C heat is not a task for the weak at heart. The fact that I am writing this tells you I survived the experience.
I am sitting here in my comfortable camper having finished my dinner and cocktails. It's late. It's dark out and tonight we are supposed to get some rain. The bike is covered and all my stuff is safe and dry in the camper. There is quite a wind blowing so the storm is near. I will post this blog and curl up with my book. Good night all.
