It was almost noon before I hit the road again. I jumped on Hwy. 25 which took me south to Albuquerque, NM. I decided to grab a little lunch before getting back on the "slab". Interstate 40 goes west all the way to California and I knew I'd be riding it for the next couple of days as I crossed into Arizona and ultimately California.
Most of the day was spent just cruising down the highway, stopping for gas or a bite to eat and a cold drink.
I crossed the Arizona state line and took a photo just because.
Here is another one of those crazy Route 66 attractions.
From the border to my final destination in Holbrook, AZ. the powerful headwind out of the west was really slowing me down. The trailer is wider than the bike so it acts like a sail and makes it very difficult to maintain the 75 mph speed limit.
When I finally pulled into the Holbrook KOA I was pretty worn out and glad my day was nearing a close. While checking in a woman who was also registering commented that she had seen me on the highway several times that day and was impressed that I made it despite the conditions.
No sooner had I found my camp site and setup the camper than a fellow biker came over from his tent site and introduced himself. He had been on the road for five weeks and was headed, like me, down Route 66. His name was Dave and we spent the rest of the evening sharing our adventures on the road. Here's Dave on his Harley.
We wound up talking the night away and finally crashed about 10:00 pm.
I love the stories of you meeting people on the road and hanging out with other bikers! Sounds so fun!
