ROUTE 66 (DAY 10)

Oddly enough this crazy bunch next door were up at 5:45 am and were packed up and gone by 7:00. At last, peace and quiet. I put on a pot of coffee and went to the camp superintendent to see if I could hook up my camera battery charger. He was very helpful and offered me a spare outlet. I figured I would need at least an hour to charge it so I finished my breakfast, folded up the camper and even read a few chapters in my Kindle. It was such a peaceful place. The air was clean and fresh feeling but the heat wasn't far off. With the battery charged I headed back to the canyon rim and took these great shots.

Satisfied that I had some good pics I climbed back on my bike and headed south to Williams, AZ before getting back on interstate 40.
I really wasn't sure where I would camp that night but I wanted to get closer to Los Angeles because I wanted to be at my friend, Duncan Williams' place by mid day on Sunday.
I decide to try to make Barstow, California which meant a long hot day crossing the Mojave Desert. At a gas stop I asked another traveler what the temperature was. It didn't surprise me to learn that it was 105'F. Once I was back on the road I noticed a small rain cloud up ahead dumping it's cool refreshing load. I was actually hoping it would dump on me but it looked like the highway would not pass under it. By some miracle the road started to curve off to the right and before I knew it I was getting a lovely cool shower.

My poor behind was killing me so I would stop frequently, slug down some Gatorade and push on. It wound up being a 400 mile day which I don't want to repeat any time soon.
