Day Thirteen

Just like the weatherman predicted, sunny and breezy with the chance of rain in the late afternoon and evening. I needed to get going so I had breakfast and skipped my shower and shave. All my clothes are dirty and I planned to be back in time to do some laundry and get myself all clean too before tomorrow.

The Cabot Trail is one big loop that takes about five hours to ride if you don't stop. I planned to stop a lot for photographs so I got away around 10:00 am. I decided to run the trail counterclockwise so I'd have sun on both sides of the island.

The first few miles were nice and windy but stayed down low next to the water. Then it started to climb and a nice couple from London, Ontario offered to take my picture.

The traffic on the trail was minimal, mostly motorcycles. I never got stuck behind a slow moving semi or RV. The island is very heavily forested and mountainous so it had some very breathtaking scenery.
I even came across another beach with kids frolicking in the surf. It must be very cold water and then with the wind, brrrrrrrrr!

I kept riding and kept seeing so many great shots that I finally just slung the camera around my neck so it was right there whenever I stopped for a photo instead of digging through my pack each time. I left the trailer back at the campground so I felt free as a bird.
About half way around the loop I decided I better stop and call in my reservations for the ferry to Newfoundland in the morning. To my relief the ferry has been delayed and I won't need to be at the dock until 9:30 am. This means I can get up at 7:30, pack up the camper and be there without being up at the crack of dawn.
As I came around the top of the trail at the North Cape the scenery changed and now I was looking out into the Atlantic in the direction of Newfoundland. It also meant that I was about half way around the loop.

I was getting low on fuel and there just aren't many gas stations along this very remote trail. I finally saw one with only a few fumes left in my tank so I didn't even mind paying a $1.54 a litre. I found this really picturesque little fishing village and couldn't resist a shot before heading for home.

I'm just doing my laundry at the moment and then it's time for a shower and then...........the cocktail hour. What an awesome day!

  1. You had a perfect day. The fog often obscures the view on the Cabot Trail. Nice of the London couple to take your picture. That was the first time I have seen your neon jacket. I am going to write my M1 tomorrow and I have enrolled in a safety course at Cambrian College that starts on August 19th for 5 nights -- 20 hours of instruction. My uncle's first Canadain Tire store was at North Sydney where you will board the ferry and I visited there many years ago -- too many to mention...
